Here are answers to some of the most common questions we get asked.
Do you travel?
You betcha! Wherever your wedding is, we want to be your DJ, and help you create some fun and amazing moments for you. Destination wedding? We can do that too, so let’s chat!
Based in Brandon MB, Expressions Entertainment provides DJ services throughout Manitoba, in towns such as Virden, Melita, Boissevain, Killarney, Carberry, Portage La Prairie, Winnipeg, Neepawa and Minnedosa. We love performing in Wasagaming/Clear Lake, Dauphin, Russell, Asessippi Ski Resort… even as far north as The Pas!
We’ve travelled beyond our province into Saskatchewan too, looking after events in Moosomin, Redvers, Carnduff, Carlyle, Oxbow, Arcola, Kenosee, Estevan, Weyburn, Whitewood, Regina, and Saskatoon! There’s been trips to Alberta too, to places like Red Deer, Leduc, and Edmonton.
What other additional services do you offer?
Our slogan, “more than just music”, says it all. In addition to fantastic DJ wedding entertainment, other types of events include high-end corporate events, which typically require a similar professional approach and attention to detail as weddings. We also entertain at game show parties, socials and school grad parties, as well as offer specialty lighting and our photo booth option with Fresh Photo Booth.
Do you play requests?
Heck yeah, bring on the requests! We’ll gladly play the music that best fits the party; it’s kind of our job! We take requests in person at our DJ booth, as well as through your planning system. We go as far as to open requests up to your guests in advance of the party too. We’ve got you covered!
How early should we book a DJ?
Earlier is always better. We’re a small, boutique service, and that limits our availability. There are times that we can take last minute events, and we have a back up DJ and system ready to go for those times. To ensure that you have the most options, booking sooner than later is the “less stress” way.
How does payment work?
The deposit is typically 25% of the total amount, and is due at the signing of the agreement of service (aka the contract). For weddings, the final balance is paid in three instalments, which makes life easier for many of our clients that want to ensure they get fantastic DJ entertainment and want to make it easier to budget for. Other events require payment 7 days in advance of the event date.
Payments can be made by PayPal through the client VIP online portal, Credit Card, cheque, cash or e-transfer. Unless arranged well in advance, all payments are made before the day of the event, allowing you the freedom to fully enjoy your party.
How well do you work with other vendors?
Our goal is to ensure your night goes smoothly, and since we are often the MC and event director, its of the utmost importance that we have a great relationship with everyone we work with. We need to ensure that we’re all on the same page, and start by reaching out to event VIPs prior to the event. From organizing captivating moments with a photographer, to ensuring those giving speeches and toasts do a great job, its our mission to accomplish this.
Are you insured?
We are fully insured through Erb & Erb, a company with plans in place specifically made for DJs. Should anything happen at your event, either to you, your guests, or us, our Liability coverage is in place. Likewise, if there is damage to any of our equipment or that of yours, your vendors or the venue, we are prepared for it.
As DJs, what is your specialty?
We’ll have to go with weddings on this one, as they are the cornerstone of our business. Memories and activities that we create with our couples trickle over to other event types under the Expressions umbrella. Overall, weddings are our passion, and make up 75% of our business.
How involved are you in helping us to plan our party?
Just as you rely on a caterer for their expertise in food, you’re can rely on Expressions Entertainment for our expertise in music and party experience. We’ll provide you suggestions based on your likes and personalities, and we feel perfectly comfortable selecting most (or all) of the music if you prefer to leave it to us. We use an online planning system that covers everything related to your guests enjoying themselves, and we’ll work with you as much as you like on all of it.
How will I know who my DJ will be, and how do I book that DJ for my event?
Once you’ve submitted the contact form on our website, we’ll begin the steps of getting you set up with your DJ. For reference, our DJ profiles are available on our main page. After you have your initial consultation with Bryan, you’ll be matched with the available DJ that best suits your personalities. From that point on, the DJ will be the one in contact with you directly, as early as 6 months out from the event. If you have one of our specific DJs in mind, all you have to do is ask, and as long as they are
available, they will be yours!
How much do you charge?
As a boutique style DJ service, every event fee is calculated upon its unique requirements. Even smaller parties that many think ‘just need some music’ deserve a good, honest review and may need options you may not have thought of, which could dave you some money! There are LOTS of variables, and its best we go over them. Let’s get together for a chat and get into exactly what you’re looking for, and we will come up with a customized price for you.
When do you arrive to set up?
Depending on the inclusions, the average time to set up the sound and lighting system is about 90 minutes. The minimum amount of time we require to set up is 60 minutes. Adding on things like up lighting or our Fresh Photo Booth requires additional time and needs to be managed with you. If the venue will be available, we prefer to set up the day before.
Should we feed the DJ and his/her assistant?
We’d love to be fed; it is not a requirement. Whereas a meal for the DJ and the assistant is always greatly appreciated, we do prepare to be ready with snacks and water when we are at your event. Because we arrive early, set up, test, perform all night, tear down and are most often the last ones to leave, all without a "break”, its always a treat to be considered one of the guests at meal time.

When you hire Expressions Entertainment for your event, mush of what we offer is unlimited – unlimited equipment, unlimited music requests, unlimited contact with your specific DJ. Our availability, that’s a different story. Once fully committed to our maximum events on a date (which is basically every Saturday between April and October), we are no longer available for additional events.
